Objective:

The Bright Vision Mission, initiated by the Rotary Club in collaboration with the Sevasadan Community Development Foundation, aimed to address the potential impact of increased screen time during the COVID-19 pandemic on children's eyesight. The focus was on providing free eye check-ups for school children who were confined to their homes during the pandemic, heavily relying on TV and mobile devices.

Implementation:

The campaign began at Mahanagarpalika School No. 1 in Sangli Miraj, where free eye check-ups were conducted for school children. Dr. Sakshi Patil, an Ophthalmologist, spearheaded the initiative to assess the eyesight of the students. The goal was to identify any vision problems arising from extended screen exposure during the lockdown.

Activities:

Free Eye Check-ups: The campaign provided free eye check-ups for a total of 1500 students from Mahanagarpalika School No. 1, ensuring a comprehensive examination of their eyesight.

Ophthalmologist-led Examination: Dr. Sakshi Patil, as the Ophthalmologist, led the eye check-up initiative, diagnosing potential eye issues and providing recommendations for further medical attention if needed.

Advice and Referrals: Students who were identified with eye-related problems during the check-up were advised to seek medical attention at a hospital for further examination and potential treatment.

Context:

The initiative was prompted by the COVID-19 pandemic, during which children were confined to their homes, limiting outdoor activities and increasing screen time. Recognizing the potential impact on eyesight, the Bright Vision Mission sought to proactively address any emerging issues.

Impact:

The Ujjawal Drushti Abhiyan had a positive impact by addressing the concerns related to children's eyesight during the pandemic. By conducting free eye check-ups for a significant number of students, the initiative aimed to identify and address potential vision problems, ensuring that children receive timely medical advice and intervention. This effort aligns with the broader goal of promoting eye health and well-being, particularly in the context of increased screen exposure during the challenging times of the COVID-19 lockdown.
